Just a reminder
that the worship service/farewell reception for Rev. Clarence Brown and his
wife, Jaie, will be held at 5:00 pm TODAY at St. Andrew's UMC, 717 Tucson Road,
Virginia Beach, 23462. Come hear
Clarence preach for the last time as our District Superintendent. The
District UMM's Chorus will provide special music. Your
presence will make this time all the more meaningful to Clarence and Jaie. A love offering is being collected for Dr.
Brown. If you would like to contribute,
please place your contribution in the offering plate on the piano. Your gifts will be added to those from other
Norfolk District UM Churches. Thank

Special Church Conference: There will be a special Church Conference held on
Tuesday, June 10th, at 7 pm, in the Church Sanctuary for the
affirmation by Hickory UMC of Denise Monroe as a candidate for the ordained
ministry in the United Methodist Church.
Please plan to be in attendance on this evening as you have an
opportunity to vote on one of Hickory’s own answering God’s call to ministry.
It’s backpack time! The 2008-2009 Backpacks of
Love campaign is underway. Empty
backpacks with supply lists for grades K-5 are ready for you to pick up, shop &
return filled with supplies &
love. The supply list has a
checklist so you can mark off each item as you buy it. Please return the supply list in the filled
backpack and note if there is a missing item. If you would like your contribution to be included in your annual
tithing report, please attach your receipts and put your name at the bottom of
the supply list. Please return
filled backpacks by July 20th.

are Invited to a Celebration - On
Friday evening, June 13th, beginning at 6:30 pm, the Brewer Family
cordially invites our Church family to come and join us in celebrating Katie's
graduation from Hickory High School and Heather's retirement from the U.S. Navy
after 24 years of Naval Service. Come out and enjoy food, drink and
fellowship and offer them your love and support. Heather Brewer would also like to invite everyone to attend her

NEWS FROM VBS: HUMC invites all children, preschool - 5th grade, to join us as
we go on a trek for friendship and fun. Activities involving camping will
provide us with lots of opportunities to learn more about our friend,
Jesus. Friendship Trek will be held
July 27 - August 1, (Sunday-Friday) from 5:15 - 8:30 pm. Mark your calendars now for Friendship Trek
this summer at Hickory Church!! Youth
and adults are asked to prayerfully consider the gifts that God has blessed
each of you with, and how you may share these gifts with our children.

Children’s Table in the Welcome Center.
Sign ups for volunteers to help with VBS are located in this same area.
Prayer Team: Our prayer team reminds you to fill out
those “answered prayer cards” and help us fill up our jar to show how God is
moving in our congregation. The blue
prayer request cards are to request prayer and can be placed in the box on the organ. The gray answered prayer cards are for
prayers that have been answered and can be placed in the jar on the piano.

pm, for children K-5th grade! Registration
has begun and spaces are limited. For

- HUMC will host a military dinner & adoption of service personnel this
Thanks-giving. We need families willing
to open their homes to these heroes. If you are interested, please contact
