Congratulations to Mitch and Christine Stubblefield upon the birth of Hank Mitchell
Stubblefield on May 2nd.
Hank weighed 6 lbs. 10½ oz. and was 20 inches long. The proud grandparents are David &
Sharon Magyar.
Attention All Moms: God’s Kids would like to
invite all moms to come to the Fellowship Center between services. God’s Kids will be providing coffee and
pastries to honor each of you on your special day.

Heart Havens – The United Methodist Men would like to thank all at
Hickory who contributed to Heart Havens during Lent. Almost $3500
was raised this year. All of this money will go to the building and
maintenance of Heart Havens homes. We hope you have been as blessed as we
have during this mission project. Again, we just want to say Thank
You!

Adopt a Hero
- HUMC will host a military dinner & adoption of service personnel this
Thanks-giving. We need families willing
to open their homes to these heroes. If you are interested, please contact
Lynn Sorey at 436-5694.
The Nurture
Committee is beginning a card ministry to remember our military personnel, our
college students away at school and also our nursing home residents. If you know of someone who could benefit
from this ministry, please turn in their name and address to the church office
or call Carolyn Everton (406-1028).

DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY: We read all
kinds of instruction books during our life, but have you every read God’s
instruction book for life. In Sept., we will start a 34 week survey of
the Bible. It will require at least 30 minutes of reading daily and a 2
hour group discussion, lead by Stan Best (546-1818) on Wed. nights. If
interested, please sign-up in the foyer. If you have any questions,
please call Stan Best or Pastor Tom. We will limit the class to 15
members, so sign-up early.
Prayer Team: Our prayer team reminds you to fill out
those “answered prayer cards” and help us fill up our jar to show how God is
moving in our congregation. The blue
prayer request cards are to request prayer and can be placed in the box on the
piano. The gray answered prayer cards
are for prayers that have been answered and can be placed in the jar on the
piano.
HUMC AFTER SCHOOL DAYCARE PROGRAM: Coming Sept. 2, 2008, from 2:00-6:00
pm, for children K-5th grade! Registration
has begun and spaces are limited. For
more information, including employment opportunities, go to the Children's
Ministry Table in the Welcome Center.
UM MEN
Heart Haven: Need
men volunteers to conduct weekly (Saturdays) maintenance at the Heart
Havens "MacLeigh House" during the month of May. Typical
maintenance includes cutting the grass, trimming/edging, etc. If you
can volunteer for one of the days, please see/call Don Brewer (641-9261) or
Glen Lester (482-9275) to be put on the schedule.

Kits for Conference: The UM Women will be collecting the following kits for
conference. Please turn in all kits by May 18th. Sewing Kits: 3 yards of cotton or
cotton blend, solid color or print fabric (must be 3 yards of uncut fabric); 1
pair of sewing scissors; 1 package of needles; 1 spool of thread; 5-8 matching
buttons. Wrap the sewing notions in the fabric and place in a sealed
one-gallon plastic bag. Layette
Kits: 6 cloth diapers; 2 shirts or 2 one piece body suits; 2 baby
washcloths; 2 gowns or sleepers; 2 diaper pins; 1 sweater open in the front; 2
receiving blankets. Bundle the items inside one of the receiving blankets
and secure with the diaper pins. School
Kits: 1 pair blunt scissors (rounded tip); 3 pads (or loose leaf) of 8 ½” x 11”
ruled paper; 1 30-centimeter ruler; 1 hand held pencil sharpener; 6 unsharpened
pencils with erasers; 1 eraser, 2 ½”; 1 box of 24 crayons. Place items in cloth bag (14” x 16” with
handles). Health Kits: 1 hand towel; 1
washcloth; 1 comb (large & sturdy); 1 nail file or fingernail clippers; 1
bath-size bar of soap; 1 toothbrush (in wrapper); 6 adhesive plastic strip
sterile bandages; $1 to purchase toothpaste.
