Please call the church office (421-2778) for more information.  You may also email the church at office@hickoryumc.org or visit our website at www.hickoryumc.org.  You Tube - www.youtube.com/HickoryUMC.

If you need help hearing today’s service, hearing aids are available.  Please see an usher.

After the 8:30 service and just before Sunday School there is a social time with light refreshments in the Welcome Center.  You are invited to meet and greet.

Congratulations to Wil Best and Catie Gilmore on the birth of Olivia Christine Gilmore-Best on May 28th.  Olivia was 8 lbs. 10 oz. and 22¼" long.  The proud grandparents are Stan & Cheryl Best.

Christian love and sympathy is extended to Carolyn Chyzik and family upon the death of her mother and to Jennifer Foster and family upon the death of her aunt.

HUMC AFTER SCHOOL DAY CARE PROGRAM: Farm Fresh Receipts: The program ending date is May 31st.  The last Sunday for collection until fall is TODAY.  Collection containers are available on the piano and on the table in the Welcome Center.  Thank you!

The pastor is available in his office on Wednesday and Friday mornings subject to emergencies.  Please feel free to call the Pastor at any time on his cell phone (287-8420) or the church office (421-2778) and an appointment can be arranged.

VBS: June 21-25.  Volunteer Forms and Children’s Registration Forms can be found on the Children’s table in the Welcome Center.  Please prayerfully consider volunteering in this ministry.

DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY:  Have you ever read God’s instruction book for life?  In September, we hope to start another 34 week survey of the Bible.  It requires at least 30 minutes of reading each day and a 2 hour group discussion, led by Stan Best on Wednesday nights at 7 pm.  The Cokesbury website has a video that introduces this study which can be viewed at http://www.cokesbury.com/ forms/dynamiccontent.aspx?pageid=218&id=17.  Many people from Hickory took the fascinating journey through God's word.  If you are interested in such a trek, please sign the sign-up sheet in the Welcome Center.  If you have any questions, please call Stan Best (546-1818) or Pastor Mercer.  We will need 6 to 12 members to start a class, so sign-up early.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH VOLUNTEERS: We are currently in need of individuals willing to help out with our children's church ministry during the regular worship time on Sundays.  A short lesson/ art activity is provided for the volunteer to use with a small group of children for 30 minutes after the children's sermon.  Please prayerfully consider giving ½ hour of your time in a 3 month period to help with the ministry of our children at Hickory Church.  Contact Donna Mishler @ 421-7963.

BLUE BUCKET OF CHILDREN'S BOOKS: The Generation Why Not Sunday School Class is collecting Children's Books from toddler age all the way to high school age.  These books will be donated to needy families in the community through the local schools, food pantries and women's shelters.  Please put all your new and gently used books in the Blue Bucket provided in the Welcome Center"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." — Frederick Douglass

Next Gospel Concert: Saturday, June 12th, 7 pm, featuring “Daughters of the King”, “Confessions of Faith”, and “Sterling Riggs (Elvis)”.  A love offering will be collected and refreshments will be available.

There is a collection box in the Welcome Center for donations of used glasses and hearing aids which will be collected by the Lions Club.  Also, Sandy Carawan is selling Lions Club brooms with all profits going to assist the blind.  If interested, please call Sandy at 547-5479.

HUMC After School Day Care Program: Registration has begun for next year!  If you know of someone who may benefit from this program, please have them call the church office for more information.  We would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

Praise Songs    THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, There’s just something about that name.  Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain.  Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all heaven and earth proclaim:  Kings and kingdoms will all pass away.  But there’s something about that name.

THY WORD

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  When I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way, still You’re there right beside me.  And nothing will I fear as long as You are near, please be near me to the end.  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
