The Pastor, Staff and people of Hickory will be glad to share with you about opportunities for Christian growth. Please call the church office for more info.  You may also email the church at office@hickoryumc.org or visit our website at www.hickoryumc.org.  On You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/hickoryumc.

We welcome to the pulpit today Alan Foster.  We would like to thank him and also Arnie Lindblad for their leadership at today’s services.

The flowers on the altar are given by Mike & Sabrina Leist in honor of their 14th Wedding Anniversary.

If you need help hearing today’s service, hearing aids are available.  Please see an usher.

After the 8:30 service and just before Sunday School there is a social time with light refreshments in the Welcome Center.  You are invited to meet and greet.

Dear Church family, Thank you all for the prayers and concern during my mom's hospital stay and while she was still at home.  Thanks for the cards and also for the beautiful plant that you sent our family.  We truly appreciate everything.  God Bless You all.           Margaret Norfleet and Family

I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful reception. I want to especially thank all the parents and the church for allowing me this opportunity to work with, have fun with, pray with, and grow along in Christ with all the exciting youth over the past seven years. Blessings to each and everyone of you. Keep your eyes on Christ!             Cheryl Best

DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY:  In September, we will start another 34 week survey of the Bible called Disciple.  It requires at least 30 minutes of reading each day and a 2 hour group discussion, led by Stan Best, on Wednesday nights at 7 pm.  If you are interested in such a study, please sign the sign-up sheet in the Welcome Center.  If you have any questions, please call Stan Best (546-1818) or Pastor Mercer.  We have room for up to 12 members, so sign-up early before the slots run out.

Our annual Backpacks of Love campaign to provide school supplies to the children of the Eastern Shore will run this year from July 4th to August 8th.  Please pick up an empty backpack and supply list in the Welcome Center.  Please use the school supply list per grade level to purchase supplies, check off as you go so we know what is missing, then return the supply list and the filled backpack by Aug. 8th.  If you would like to participate in the program, but do not wish to fill a backpack, donation envelopes are available on the piano. Thank you for prayerfully considering this Outreach project. Your time and donations are so gratefully appreciated by the children of the Shore. If you have questions, please contact Lynn Sorey at 672-6529 or Margaret Norfleet at 421-9361.

Acolytes – The next Acolyte list will be prepared shortly.  If you are interested in being an acolyte or are currently on the acolyte list but wish to be removed, please contact either the church office or Lynn Sorey at 672-6529 or via email at sorey4459@cox.net.

Swimming Lessons – The annual Campen swimming lessons will be held July 19-30, M-F, from 9-11 am, at 1124 Candlewood Drive, Va. Beach, VA 23464, the home of Janice Key.  Lessons are free.  Betty Campen, a member of HUMC, taught swimming lessons in her home in Great Bridge for over 50 years. She believed everyone should know how to swim and wanted to do her part to make that happen.  Before she passed away, she asked Tessa Darrow, a former student, to continue her dream of teaching others to swim.  Some of her students, some of which are youth from HUMC, will be assisting with the lessons.  Please see the flyer on the bulletin board in the foyer.  Contact Tessa Darrow at 757-409-3371, Tddarrow@yahoo.com or Lynn Jordan at 421-4312 to sign up.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers still needed!  Please prayerfully consider giving ½ hour of your time in a 3 month period to help with the ministry of our children at Hickory Church.  Contact Donna Mishler @ 421-7963.

BLUE BUCKET OF CHILDREN'S BOOKS: The Generation Why Not Class is collecting Children's Books from toddler age all the way to high school age.  These books will be donated to needy families in the community through the local schools, food pantries and women's shelters.  Please put all your new and gently used books in the Blue Bucket provided in the Welcome Center

HUMC After School Day Care Program: Registration has begun for next year!  If you know of someone who may benefit from this program, please have them call the church office for more information.  We would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support.

         UM WOMEN

The UM Women will not meet during July or August.  Meetings will resume in September.

                                                           UM MEN

Men’s Bible Study: Tuesdays at 7 pm at the church.  All men are invited to attend.

PRAISE SONGS:              SEEK YE FIRST

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  And, all these things shall be added unto you.  Allelu, Alleluia.

Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find.  Knock and the door shall be opened unto you.  Allelu, Alleluia.

                                  SWEET, SWEET SPIRIT

There’s a sweet, sweet spirit in this place, and I know that it’s the spirit of the Lord.  There are sweet expressions on each face, and I know that it’s the presence of the Lord.

Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet Heavenly Dove, stay right here with us, filling us with Your love.  And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise.  Without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place.

Memory Verse:

Reaching All Men                               Colossians 1:27-28  (NIV)

27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.  28 We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
