A special thank you from all the staff at Hickory UMC to the congregation for the gift cards we received and all of the other kindnesses shown to us during the Christmas season.

The Mercer Family would like to thank everyone for the many gifts and acts of kindness shown them during this Advent and Christmas season.

There will be a Staff/Parish Committee Meeting today at 12:15 p.m.  The Book of Discipline of the UM Church mandates that the committee meet annually to review the clergy leadership for our church.  As a result of this meeting, the committee must advise the Bishop via the District Superintendent as to whether the congregation would be best served by the Pastor serving another year or that a change in clergy leadership may best benefit the church.  The Staff/Parish Committee will meet to consider this important decision in the life of the church.  You are welcome to contact any of the members of the committee with input (praise and/or concern) you believe would be beneficial in making a recommendation.  The members of this committee are: Don Brewer (410-2139), Chair, Sharon Nichols (436-7289), Susan McKee (819-7240), Cheryl McCall (718-3822), Curtis Tasker (421-4700), Dave McCullough (421-0471), Kim Schorr (525-6134), Harry Faircloth (204-4550), David Feldman (482-8323) and Leo Lewis (421-9180).

Pending approval by the Staff/Parish Relations Committee, a church conference will be held at Hickory UMC on Monday, January 6th, 2014, at 7 pm.  The purpose of the Church Conference is to seek approval by the congregation of Hickory UMC for Brandon Nichols to be certified as a candidate for ordained ministry in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church.  All members of Hickory Church are eligible to vote at this conference.

Memory Verse:

The Word Became Flesh                    John 1:1   (NIV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Praise Songs:               ALL HAIL, KING JESUS

All hail, King Jesus,  All hail, Emmanuel: King of kings, Lord of lords, Bright Morning Star. And throughout eternity I’m going to praise Him, And forevermore I will reign with Him.

All hail, King Jesus,  All hail, Emmanuel: King of kings, Lord of lords, Bright Morning Star. And throughout eternity I’m going to praise Him, And forevermore I will reign with Him.

                                        SHINE, JESUS SHINE

Lord, the light of Your love is shining, In the midst of the darkness shining; Jesus, Light of the word, shine upon us, Set us free by the truth You now bring us; Shine on me. Shine on me.  Shine Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory; Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; Send forth Your Word, Lord, and let there be light.

Lord, I come to Your awesome presence, From the shadows into Your radiance; By the blood I may enter Your brightness; Search me, try me, consume all my darkness;  Shine on me. Shine on me.  Shine Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory; Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; Send forth Your Word, Lord, and let there be light.
