The flowers on the altar are given in honor of Don Brewer’s birthday by his family.

Joyce Stukey would like to thank the congregation for the outpouring of support she has received during her recent loss.  She appreciates the cards, food and most of all your prayers during this time.

New Bible Study: Pastor Tom is leading a new Bible study entitled, “Final Words from the Cross”.  The class will meet on Feb. 29th, and March 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.  Each week we will be looking at particular words Jesus spoke from the cross, such as: “Father, forgive them”, “It is finished”, etc.  You will be helping Pastor Tom with his sermon for the next Sunday.  A sign-up sheet is in the Welcome Center so adequate materials will be available.

All parents with children: Cindy Williams is leading a Children’s Bible Study entitled, “Learning To Use My Bible” for children in 1st – 5th grades.  The class will meet on Feb. 29th, and March 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.  Cindy will be in the classroom beginning at 6:30 pm and children may bring homework to work on from 6:30-7:00.  Lessons will be from 7 – 8 pm.  The class will not meet on Ash Wednesday (2/22), due to the Ash Wednesday Service.

Class on Christian Beliefs & United Methodism: The Pastor will lead a class on United Methodist Christian beliefs, church structure, United Methodist history and Hickory Church history on Sunday, Feb. 26th, at 6:30 p.m.  All interested persons, including members and prospective members, are invited.  While not necessary, notifying the Pastor of your intention to attend will help make sure sufficient materials are available.  A nursery will be provided if you notify the Pastor.

Ladies...Beth Moore's latest Bible study, James: Mercy Triumphs, will begin on Tuesday, March 27th at 6:30 p.m.  This 8 week course on the life and book of James teaches the difference between just talking about living in victory and actually doing it.  A sign-up sheet is located on the table in the Welcome Center.  Register today!  Come and see what one little glimpse of the resurrected Christ can do!  For more information contact Stephanie Stahler at 546-9408.

Offering Counters:  In order to reduce mailing costs, REVISED copies of the Jan. – April Counter Schedules are available in the Welcome Center, if you have not already received one by email.

2012 Offering Envelopes: Offering Envelopes are available in the Welcome Center.  Please call the church office if you do not find your envelopes or if you need additional envelopes for family members.

Ongoing Outreach Project - Rena B. Wright Primary School: We will be collecting the following throughout the school year: baby wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, gloves/mittens, socks, gently used or new sweaters and jackets.  Many of the children attending this school come in the winter without socks, hand coverings, or even sweaters or jackets.  We may also need to replenish school supplies.
If you feel led to donate any other items that are helpful for teachers I am sure they will be appreciated also.  There is a tote for collection in the foyer of the Welcome Center.

Offering Counters: Qualifications NEEDED: 18 years of age or older, be willing to volunteer one Sunday a quarter and be able to count.  If you meet these qualifications, please contact Ginny Owens at 482-7631 or owens0720@cox.net.

Acolytes: Anyone 3rd grade or above who would like to begin serving as an Acolyte should call Michele Bar (410-0387).

                                                           YOUTH

Hickory United Methodist is planning a summer youth mission trip.  Our mission this year is to help repair devastated housing of the full time residents on Hatteras Island.  Skilled and unskilled volunteers are encouraged to participate.  If you have a cottage or access to a place we might stay in the area, please let us know.  We have not firmed the date and will try to work around your schedule.  We anticipate around 30 individuals who can sleep anywhere as long as there are bathroom(s).  This year's costs should be lower, especially if housing is found.  Still, financial assistance would be appreciated.  While this mission project is open to all, on behalf of the youth let us thank you for your help in the past and anything you can do to make this year's mission project a success for doing God's Work.  In God's service, Andy Barnard and Brandon Nichols

Attention All Hickory Youth Group Parents: Would you like to be kept informed on Hickory Youth Group’s events and field trips?  Well now you can!  All you have to do is sign up for email updates on the Youth Bulletin Board in the Welcome Center.  Please be on the lookout for emails from: youth@hickoryumc.org.

Memory Verse:

Love                                        John 13:34-35   (NIV)

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”

Praise Songs:                 OPEN OUR EYES, LORD

Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus, to reach out and touch Him and say that we love Him.  Open our ears Lord, and help us to listen.  Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus.

SHINE, JESUS, SHINE

Lord, the light of Your love is shining, in the midst of the darkness shining.  Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us, set us free by the truth You now bring us.  Shine on me.  Shine on me.

Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory.  Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.  Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy.  Send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light.

Lord, I come to Your awesome presence, from the shadows into Your radiance.  By the blood I may enter Your brightness.  Search me, try me, consume all my darkness.
