Discipleship Groups

HUMC offers a variety of Discipleship Groups throughout the year. Studies and Group topics vary from season to season, so check back often for additional studies.

Go Deeper With Disciple I

For those drawn to a more structured and comprehensive study, Disciple I will be offered again in 2026 and aligns well with our year-long journey.

Led by Charles Vertigan and Jack Watts, the class will meet in two parts—January–May (Old Testament), and then we will offer the New Testament Class, September–December. (Time/date/Teacher TBA)

Whether this is your first time or you feel called to revisit this life-changing course, Disciple I offers a solid foundation for understanding the full sweep of Scripture.
Books for Disciple I are $20.

Follow Up with Disciple II Fast Track: Old Testament

Disciple II Fast Track is a 12-week deep dive into Genesis and Exodus, designed for those who want to grow in biblical literacy and theological depth. Beginning March 4, this class meets on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Walston Room and will be led by Greg Moyer. Disciple II Fast Track follows a slower, more focused pace than Disciple I, allowing participants to engage deeply with Scripture, trace God’s covenant story, and reflect on how these foundational texts shape faith today. This study is ideal for those ready to move beyond overview and into thoughtful, prayerful engagement with the Old Testament. Recommended that you have taken Disciple I in the past, but not required.

The Good and Beautiful God – Small Group Study

Wednesdays at 6:30 PM | 10 weeks
Book by Rev. James Bryan Smith

Good and Beautiful You is an 11-week Wednesday night study designed to help us tend to our souls and rediscover who God says we are. Beginning March 4 at 6:30 PM, this 90-minute class will be led by Pastor Sarah and uses James Bryan Smith’s The Good and Beautiful You—the second book in the Apprentice Series, though no prior participation in the series is required. This study names the deep needs of the human soul and explores how God meets those needs with grace, truth, and love. Together, we’ll reflect on the false stories we often live by and be invited into the healing, life-giving story God tells about us. Books are $15, and all are welcome.

Hickory Men’s Bible Study
