Discipleship Groups
HUMC offers a variety of Discipleship Groups throughout the year. Studies and Group topics vary from season to season, so check back often for additional studies.
Go Deeper With Disciple I
For those drawn to a more structured and comprehensive study, Disciple I will be offered again in 2026 and aligns well with our year-long journey.
Led by Charles Vertigan and Jack Watts, the class will meet in two parts—January–May (Old Testament), and then we will offer the New Testament Class, September–December. (Time/date/Teacher TBA)
Whether this is your first time or you feel called to revisit this life-changing course, Disciple I offers a solid foundation for understanding the full sweep of Scripture.
Books for Disciple I are $20.
Explore Your Own Story With Winston Faircloth
As we study God’s story, you are also invited to reflect more deeply on your own. Winston Faircloth will lead an online small group using One Life Maps, a tool that helps participants trace God’s presence, shaping, and calling through the seasons of their lives. This is a powerful 10-week companion to our year-long scriptural journey. Materials for One Life Maps are $50 and will be available before the class starts.
The Small group will meet on Mondays @ 6:30 at Hickory with a Zoom option starting February 2nd.
There will be an interest meeting/ info session on January 19th @ 6:30pm if you want to learn more.
The Good and Beautiful God – Small Group Study
Wednesdays at 6:30 PM | 10 weeks
Book by Rev. James Bryan Smith
This study explores what we believe about God and how those beliefs shape our daily lives and spiritual journey. Each week we’ll reflect on how God is revealed in Scripture, how we sometimes misunderstand Him, and how discovering the truth can draw us deeper into the love of Jesus. Open to anyone and everyone wanting to take one step deeper in their walk with Christ.
Habits of the Household – Small Group for Parents
Sundays at 4:00 PM | 13 weeks
Book by Justin Whitmel Earley | Hosted by Pastor Sarah & Alexis Coburn
Together we’ll read one chapter each week and talk about practical ways to shape our homes and daily routines around faith. This will be a space to share wisdom, find encouragement, and build community with other parents walking the same journey.
