United Methodist Women
HUMC Women's mission statement
Faith - Hope - love - in action!
Our purpose as sisters in Christ is to develop a creative, supportive Christian fellowship that participates in local community ministries and global ministries of the church. Our prayer is that God will guide and bless our efforts to serve Him. We are Sisters in Action !!
We meet on the third Thursday, January-May and September- November with special activities planned throughout the year.
Women of all ages are welcome!! Come meet new friends and learn ways you can be involved in women's ministries of Hickory Church!!
ANNOUNCEMENT: The UMW will be making Easter Eggs March 26th-30th. Lots of hands are needed. Sign-up sheets are located on the UMW bulletin board in the Welcome Center.
Each spring we make and sell over 1500 chocolate covered Easter Eggs to help fund activities and community service projects throughout the year.
Our sisters provide meals for CAST, NEST, Vacation Bible School, and funeral receptions for church members/their spouses and their children.
We also serve a holiday meal after the Christmas Cantata each December - a time for fellowship.
Our sisters vote to contribute monies and items to various organizations each year such as - Chesapeake Avenue Food Pantry, Chesapeake Free Clinic, HER Shelter, Blankets for the Homeless, Chesapeake Foster Care, Blanket train to Appalachia, Lydia Roper Ladies Home, Burfort House for homeless women, Kits for Methodist Conference Missions, support for our youth and adult missions teams - among others.
As women, we are nurturers and plan some activities that can involve families - such as Advent wreath making to help encourage family traditions that are Christ-centered. Another way to unite families is through our Ladies tea often held in May with women inviting friends, sisters, mothers, daughters, granddaughters - a time to celebrate the special women in our lives!
Each year we honor our senior church members (men and women) with a 75 and Over Luncheon of home cooked delicacies and prizes for all attendees decorated with a different theme each year to make it a fun event. Our older members have wonderful stories and memories to share.
All women are encouraged to attend women's retreats and special women's conferences to receive renewal of spirit and refresh as whole persons through Jesus Christ. Announcements are in the church bulletin and emails to ladies on our list to let you know details about the next conference/retreat or ladies activity each month.
There is something you can be involved in just about every month!! What are your interests? Where is God calling you to be involved??
~May God bless you in your faith journey~
