Missions Overview

Hickory United Methodist Church participates in and organizes several missions. We know that "church" isn't just about what goes on inside the walls of our sanctuary, but how we help others around us - in our community and across the globe.

City of hope, tanzania

Each year a small group of HUMC members travel across the globe to the City of Hope school and orphanage in Tanzania where they assist in building new facilities and working with these special children one-on-one. Our church continues to support their mission and future trips to Tanzania are in the works!

Cleaning Buckets

Buckets and instructions for cleaning kits are in the Welcome Center.  Kits will be sent to staging warehouses for distribution to flood victims.  PLEASE READ the instructions, check off each item and return the list with the bucket.  A donation of $2 per bucket will defray the cost of shipping.

Chesapeake Avenue Food Pantry

The Chesapeake Avenue Food Pantry in South Norfolk is 100% supported by HUMC. This weekly food pantry is open to residents every Tuesday, and volunteers are needed on a weekly basis. Food drives including our fall food drive, Thanksgiving turkey drive, Christmas dinner drive and winter "Souper Bowl" canned soup drive all support Chesapeake Avenue. For information on how to volunteer contact Deborah Pallett at (757) 421-4412.
