New Sermon Series Begins July 12:

God Alone Suffices

This summer, we will begin a new preaching series rooted in a beloved prayer often attributed to St. Teresa of Ávila:

Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing away.
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing.
God alone suffices.

These simple words have carried Christians through seasons of fear, uncertainty, waiting, grief, change, and hope. They do not deny that life can be difficult. Instead, they gently call us back to the deep truth at the center of our faith: God is steady when life is not.

Beginning Sunday, July 12, we will take this prayer one line at a time and allow Scripture to help us listen more deeply. Each week, we will consider what it means to trust God when we feel disturbed, to receive courage when we are afraid, to remember that all things are passing away, and to rest in the unchanging love of God.

In a world that often feels hurried, anxious, and unstable, this prayer invites us into a slower, deeper confidence. It reminds us that our security is not found in having everything figured out, holding everything together, or controlling what comes next. Our peace is found in the God who is faithful, present, and enough.

We hope you will join us for this series as we pray, worship, and learn together what it means to live with the quiet confidence that God alone suffices.

5PM Select Sundays - Northwest River Annex Base

3405 Relay Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322

As part of our vision to be a welcoming home where all are embraced as family, Hickory UMC is honored to serve the military community at Northwest River Annex Base through a shared worship ministry with other local congregations.

Many stationed there are far from home and without local connections, and we believe it’s our calling to share Christ’s love through worship, presence, and hospitality. On select Sundays at 5 PM, we gather for informal worship and dinner, creating space for connection and encouragement. This ministry is one small way we live out our commitment to embrace and serve those who might otherwise feel far from home.

Upcoming Hickory Annex Chapel Nights:

  • June 21st

  • June 28th

  • July 19th

  • August 9th

  • August 30th

On these nights, The Hickory service will be held ONLY at Northwest River Base, and no services or suppers will be held at the church.
